Jessica and her family moved to Waterval farm in the Stanford Valley in 2021. Waterval is  65 ha of mountain fynbos, just 12 km from the Walker Bay in the Overberg region of the Western Cape. Here, the cool climate and old Cape soils are known for incredibly diverse fynbos species, fine wines and farm produce. Waterval, as the name suggests, has a waterfall running through the property, making it an ideal place to work regeneratively. 

 

Waterval is Jessica’s biggest childhood dream, combining her passion for wine, horses, fynbos and regenerative agriculture. Focus is placed on soil health and incorporating animals to help fix carbon into the soils, to create a more diverse soil biology. The large vegetable garden is central to the farm, while chickens provide nourishment to the team and soils. The sheep and nguni cattle rotationally graze our pastures while we discover nature's toolkit of regenerative agricultural practices. 

 

Farming with nature allows more resilience, less or no input, better yields and long term sustainability.
